Scholarly Research Articles: Introduction

Journal articles about original research studies have a standardized format. Learn about the parts and what information they contain.

Introduction = Rationale and Goals

The introduction comes after the abstract.  It is usually labeled with the heading Introduction and includes everything up until the section labeled Methods. It usually includes a review of other literature from the field on that topic to show how this study fits in with others done previously.
