In accordance with LCCC’s mission to transform student lives through the power of inspired learning, the Writing & Communications Center guides students in becoming more autonomous writers, speakers, and thinkers. To this end, by listening, asking questions, and providing resources, our tutors empower students to evaluate and make decisions about their own work and encourage them to develop positive attitudes about their communication skills. Our services are rooted in the belief that purpose- and process-driven, focused, well-organized and well-supported work that meets assignment requirements is most important in effective communication. Thus, we endeavor to create better writers and speakers, not better writing and speeches.
All of our tutoring services are FREE!
Writing Consultants will visit with students to guide their work in any phase of the writing and/or speech-planning process, from brainstorming ideas, to outlining, to discussing revision strategies on a completed draft of a paper. Students will be encouraged to take notes throughout the session and mark their own papers with comments, reminders, corrections, etc.
Tutoring sessions are on scheduled or drop-ins.
Students are not required to have any kind of draft or prewriting in order to get help.
