Library Circulation Policies: Holds/Interlibrary Loans

Holds

Holds may be placed on most materials currently in circulation. If the item is on the shelf, it will be pulled from the collection and held up at the circulation desk for the patron to come and pick up.  Patrons who live outside the Cheyenne area will have items mailed to them. If the item requested is already checked out, it will be placed on hold for the requestor once the material has been returned. Patrons will be notified at the email or phone number on file once the item is available for pick-up.  Items not picked up after 1 week may be returned to the shelf and made available for other patrons to check out.  Reserve materials are not eligible to be placed on Hold.

How to place a hold:

  • Search for items in the online WYLDCAT catalog
  • In the item record, click on the green HOLD button
  • Enter your library card information and PIN in the screen that pops up
  • When the item has successfully been placed on hold and is currently available in the library, it will be pulled the following morning and placed on the HOLD shelf; the patron is generally notified via email that the item is now available for pickup.
  • If the item is already checked out, the hold will still be placed and will become available as soon as the item is returned; once checked in, the item will go on the HOLD shelf and the patron will be notified that it is available for pickup.
  • If you need an item to be pulled immediately, please call the front desk at 307-778-1205 to place your Hold.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service provided to LCCC students and employees and also available to community members on a limited basis.  Community card holders are allowed to have up to 15 active requests in the system at any one time.  ILL’s are checked out for the loan period assigned by the lending library. ILL’s may be renewed by contacting the library circulation desk, however renewal is not guaranteed.  The lending library will be contacted and renewals will be granted according to the home library’s policies.  Be aware that not all items will be eligible for ILL.  Items that normally don't circulate (such as Reference Books) or have limited circulation (New Books) are often restricted for ILL, depending on the home library's policies.

How to place an Interlibrary Loan on items in WYLDCAT:

  • Search for items in the online WYLDCAT catalog
  • In the item record, click on the green HOLD button
  • Enter your library card information and PIN in the screen that pops up
  • If the item is not owned by your current library but is available somewhere else in the state WYLD system, an Interlibrary Loan request will automatically be generated to have the item sent from the other Wyoming library
  • Items that must be physically shipped (books, videos, CDs) can take up to 1-2 weeks to arrive
  • Some items can be sent digitally (scanned articles) and may arrive within days; LCCC library generally has no control over how quickly the lending library will respond so all times are estimates
  • When the item arrives it will be placed on HOLD for the requesting patron they are generally notified via email that it is available for pickup
  • When you are done, return the item to LCCC and we will take care of shipping it back to its home library
  • If you need assistance placing an ILL, please call the front desk at 307-778-1205.
