These library databases will help you find a topic for your project. They allow you to click on links and explore different areas quite easily.  Find inspiration through exploration!  Make sure you are logged in to myLCCC when trying to use these databases.

Databases for Topic Shopping

Encyclopedia Articles from Reference Books:

Reference sources like encyclopedias are a place to start, NOT end, your research.

  • They answer the basic who, what, when, where, and why questions about a topic.
  • They are NOT peer-reviewed sources and often professors will ask that you NOT cite them in your paper.
  • They CAN, however, help you build background knowledge and vocabulary specific to a topic so you can do more effective advanced searching later in other databases.

Current Events & Hot Topics:

These databases can be searched by clicking links or by using keywords, which makes them great for topic shopping.

  • They contain articles from magazines, journals, and newspapers.
  • Feel free to cite sources from these databases as long as they match source types outlined in your assignment.

Take a Video Tour of These Resources

If you have never used these resources before, this video will give you a brief tour of each of them.
